Bio

Originally from Mexico and currently based in the US, Javier Llaca Ojinaga specializes in classical guitar and early plucked string instruments. He has performed as a soloist in Mexico, the US, Canada, Germany, France, England, and Spain. Javier has also played theorbo with early music ensembles in the US and Canada.

Javier has earned honors at guitar competitions, notably

• 3rd place, Domaine Forget International Guitar Competition (Canada) [open division]
• 1st place, Paracho National Guitar Competition (Mexico) [under-23 division]

Javier holds a bachelor's degree in music and computer science from Columbia University and two master's degrees in music from Yale University, where he studied under Benjamin Verdery. He currently studies under acclaimed guitarist René Izquierdo.
